  • This week, Avril Lavigne released her new album, Goodbye Lullaby, an emotionally charged record that will leave some fans wondering just who she is singing about. With a highly publicized divorce from Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley and equally highly publicized romance with "Hills" star Brody Jenner, Lavigne says that she doesn't really care if fans are trying to decode her songs.
"At this point, because I've been doing this for 10 years, I've kind of learned ... my life lesson has been about not worrying about people and what they think," she told MTV News. "Obviously I care. I want people to like my music and stuff. I've had to learn to really focus on myself: who I am, what I want ... You don't want to have distractions, especially when you're being creative."
Lavigne's ex-husband Whibley worked on many of the album's tracks. And considering how well the former spouses get along, the spunky pop star doesn't seem bothered by public speculation about her personal life. "I respect Deryck so much as an artist, and he produced several songs on this record," she explained. "I mean, he's in a really cool band, he's a writer and he's a rocker."
Whibley's skills and the duo's easygoing nature are what helped make magic happen in the studio. "He's a musician. He does it all, and to have him come on this album and produce and mix, it's like he's so talented, I was really happy to have him produce on this record," she added. "He did a really amazing job. We're great friends and I'm grateful for the relationship."
  • With the debut of the Foo Fighters' "Rope" video just a day away, just in case you weren't paying attention — the band have already given fans a sneak peek and let it be known that the overall feel of the clip is "claustrophobic," drawing influence from the band's cramped rehearsal space and the overall feel of their upcoming album, Wasting Light.
But those aren't the only bits of information the band let slip: Director and Foo frontman Dave Grohl is willing to pull the curtain back on the "Rope" video's key scene ... one that only further illustrates that creeping, claustrophobic feel.
"We shot the video ... in a big soundstage in Los Angeles. And we had to build this cube out of fabric and wood for the band to play within, and it's lit from outside," he explained. "And then, there's a part in the video where it's actually revealed that we're inside this weird white cube. At first it just seems like we're in this glowing white room from within, and then towards the end, the big reveal is we're in this room, which is within a massive room."
And though Grohl was quick to downplay his role as director on "Rope," his bandmates were equally quick to sing his praises, not so much as a keen visionary, but as a guy who knows the importance of a good dressing room. And that's pretty key, if you think about it.
"You know what was cool about that video? We all had our own dressing rooms," drummer Taylor Hawkins laughed. "I was like, 'I can get used to this!' "
"The next [video], I think it's going to be, like, 'The Foo Fighters' Dressing Room' and then 'Taylor Hawkins' Dressing Room,' " Grohl shot back. "I think that's going to happen."
  • This weekend, British pop singer Jessie J will perform live on the iconic "Saturday Night Live" stage, where she will be singing her tune "Price Tag."

But Jessie won't be going at it alone. She'll be joined by B.o.B, who makes a cameo on the feel-good song off her forthcoming debut album, Who You Are. "It's the first time we've ever performed it together, so dot dot dot, to be continued," she explained to MTV News about her big gig this coming Saturday. "I'm so excited. It's so funny about being a 'celebrity.' It's funny 'cause I've felt like I've gained like 15 jobs [such as model, presenter, stylist, etc.] and then I go, 'Oh yeah, I sing,' and then you go into rehearsals and it's like, 'This is why I do it.' I'm so excited."
Jessie added that being from across the pond and so early on in her pop career made getting invited to play the sketch-comedy show a particularly great honor. "I think it's equally as big and probably even more special for a British artist because we're British and I think if it's big for an American artist, it's even bigger [for us]," she explained. "Adele's done it recently and I'm so proud of her and Tinie Tempah's blowing up here and I feel like the British movement is coming and I'm flying the flag and to be asked to do 'SNL' is part of history. I feel like Sunday morning's going to be so different."

With a couple days left until the show, which will be hosted by Zach Galifianakis, Jessie was hoping that maybe she'd also get the opportunity to flex her comedic muscle in a skit. "I'd love to, but I don't know yet," she said, excitedly. "[I'd love to do] something that would make me look mega stupid, 'cause I like looking stupid."
  • Lindsay Lohan appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday (March 10) and rejected a plea deal that would have put the troubled actress behind bars as a part of the agreement. Lohan is charged with felony grand theft in the case.

Lohan will return to court on March 25 to offer her final decision on whether she will accept the plea deal. If she rejects the deal, a preliminary hearing will be set for April 22 before a different judge, according to TMZ. During the hearing, prosecutors will present evidence stemming from a January incident in which the starlet allegedly stole a necklace from a jewelry store.

Judge Keith Schwartz warned Lohan that her options were dwindling, suggesting that she would be sent to jail if a deal could not be reached.

The "Mean Girls" star's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, has been attempting to strike a deal with prosecutors that would spare her client prison time. Although Judge Schwartz rejected initial offers, it appears Lohan's lawyer will have more time to continue to negotiate. Lohan is facing felony grand theft charges after a Venice, California, jewelry store owner accused her of stealing a $2,500 necklace.

Lohan is facing up to three years jail time if she's found guilty. The former Disney star is on probation for past transgressions, including several DUI-related infractions.

Schwartz has gone on record insisting Lohan is certain to go to prison if she accepts a plea deal, a sentence that has been speculated to be six months.

"One of the things about me is that I treat everybody the same," Schwartz said at a prior hearing. "What I look to in sentencing is, 'What is the prior record?' In this particular case, there has been so much speculation in the press [that] I'm just going to tell you a couple of things: If you plead in front of me, you are going to jail. There might be an issue about the amount of time, but if the case settles here, you will be going to jail."
