Procol Harum is a British music group that formed in the 1960s and known through their song "A Whiter Shade of Pale". They are influenced by classical music, blues, and pop. They started from the band, The Paramounts, led by Gary Brooker and Robin Trower. After the band broke up, in April 1967 formed Procol Harum with Brooker Keith Reid, Matthew Fisher, Ray Royer, and David Knights. They recorded "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and published it on May 12, 1967. After the success of this single, they became the band toured with Jimi Hendrix's opener.Procol Harum vocal style blends a melancholy Brooker and Fisher's game affected organ Johann Sebastian Bach. They disbanded in 1977 but reunited in 1991 with Brooker, Fisher, Trower and Reid (Wilson died in 1990). Their name was chosen by manager Guy Stevens.
Apparently within the last 75 years, the most played song in the UK is a song called Whiter Shade of Pale Procol Harum got older group. Of course the results are reported by the BBC is quite surprising Procol Harum who did not expect that they will be as popular as that song.
The team from Radio 2, BBC find the fact that the song that first launched in 1967 it became the most played song in the UK for 75 years. Gary Brooker, Procol Harum one personnel said, "That's not what imagined when I wrote the song and bring it with colleagues in the Procol Harum years ago. It's really an honor."
