Unlike most comedians who perform solely in cramped comedy clubs, Eugene Mirman has taken his unique brand of absurdist humor on the road as an opening act for bands like
Modest Mouse, the
Shins and
Cake. It's no surprise then that Mirman told Spinner, "I'm a fan of
Yo La Tengo." When asked why this beloved cult rock band performed on the bill for his recent
comedy festival, Mirman elaborated on the relationship between humor and independent music. "I think that yes, the [comedy and indie-rock] worlds have come together a lot. It's also because they have mutual fans. I love a lot of indie rock and a lot of indie rock loves comedy."
