Upon revisiting
Beyoncé's ultra-fierce dance-floor anthem 'Single Ladies,' the
Carpenters' dulcet tones don't immediately spring to mind as an obvious influence. But sure enough, Bey cited the soft-rock duo during her
AOL Sessions taping, telling the interviewer, "I listened to a lot of the Carpenters when I was recording ['I Am...Sasha Fierce']." Having trouble connecting the dots? She went on to explain, "I love songs that are emotional and make you think, make you feel." Case dismissed!
