When we entered this business, we did so to achieve a simple goal -- ensuring that those who create music are empowered with the ability to express that music, in all its richness, emotion, beauty and humanity. It is simply this, a credo of empowering musical expression -- nothing more, and certainly nothing less -- that guides us in our daily work.Our task is commonly referred to as "mastering," or more correctly, "pre-mastering": the final step before manufacture of CDs and Vinyl Albums. The overall goal of the process is to maximize the quality of each track, ensuring that our clients' music sounds as good as possible, and as expressive as we are capable.
To show you what XARC can do to your music, you can listen to dozens of real-world "in-the-trenches" before/after demos here. They allow you to hear for yourself the difference XARC makes to your audio. You will hear poorly recorded tracks most other studios will not touch that have been heavily improved after mastering by our advanced mastering techniques. A Quick Tour of XARC
To help to clarify the XARC process, we have assembled a brief, "just-the-facts" tour. It is our hope that it can provide you with a quick overview of how you can utilize our services.
In our communications, we will provide you with a guide as to how you may transfer your music to us, and also invite you to access our client area.
We will also talk with you about your mastering preferences and expectations, and, if needed, we will provide you with some tips on improving your mix (of course customized for your target media -- e.g. CD or Vinyl or both!) so we can achieve better final mastering results.
Once payment is received, your mastering is scheduled. Mastering turnaround time varies, depending on both the quantity of other ongoing projects, and how much time we require to perfect the mastering. Our turnaround time is usually longer than that at most other mastering studios; a testament to our exceptional time and quality commitment on every project.
When you have approved the approval master, we efficiently finalize the project; for example, denoising is conducted, and the final master is rendered at a higher sample rate; it is thus at this step that the final few percent of quality becomes part of the final master.
It is our sincere wish that when you receive your final master, you will begin to reap the benefits of a powerful transformation of your musical expression. Our goals are always to ensure your complete satisfaction, while endlessly pursuing "sonic perfection." From top-notch video game soundtracks, to 'indie' productions, television commercials and chart-topping hits, we have proven ourselves to set the standard in the mastering industry.
In many ways, and similar to many other creations throughout history, XARC Mastering came about "by accident." Indeed, one major milestone for XARC occurred in May 2003, in the form of a really quite accidental on-line encounter. At that time, Lorenz was still working primarily as mastering engineer for national German artists and movie production companies (as well as in the area of television audio, editing, mixing and mastering for the daily requirements of a German television station).
It was while still working in this "off-line" realm, that Lorenz browsed an on-line musician/producer forum. A song posted there for review sounded particularly appealing to Lorenz, who decided to improve upon it sound-wise, mastering it for his own personal collection and listening pleasure. Being quite pleased with the results, he decided he had nothing to lose by sending to the composer. In hindsight, what happened next probably isn't too surprising -- the composer said "this rocks, I am sending you $50 USD for your job!"
This revealed an obvious opportunity for Lorenz to take his work international. When a look around the Internet proved on-line mastering to be a brand new concept, Lorenz did a bit of test marketing. Before he knew it, the clients started pouring in. Quickly becoming addicted to working on an international level while doing the most inspiring work of his life, Lorenz thought long and hard about what to do next.
After mastering for over thirty independent artists during 2003, Lorenz decided to "take the plunge" into full-time, on-line mastering. The result was truly life-changing, enabling Lorenz to work with an amazingly diverse, creative, and talent-filled range of clients, hailing from, literally, throughout the globe. Indeed, Lorenz has said that "The depth of talent and creativity I am able to work with each and every day, I assure you, is far beyond just inspiring, and has very much changed my life. I really couldn't hope for much more."
Step 1: Initial Contact
The first step begins with our initial contact.In our communications, we will provide you with a guide as to how you may transfer your music to us, and also invite you to access our client area.
We will also talk with you about your mastering preferences and expectations, and, if needed, we will provide you with some tips on improving your mix (of course customized for your target media -- e.g. CD or Vinyl or both!) so we can achieve better final mastering results.
Step 2: Mastering and Scheduling
Once the mix is ready for mastering, we will send you an e-mail (PDF) invoice, with the full mastering fees and payment details. We are pleased to accept a variety of payment options. Please note that mastering fees are due in advance of us commencing work.Once payment is received, your mastering is scheduled. Mastering turnaround time varies, depending on both the quantity of other ongoing projects, and how much time we require to perfect the mastering. Our turnaround time is usually longer than that at most other mastering studios; a testament to our exceptional time and quality commitment on every project.
Step 3: Creation of Approval Master
Once we have finished mastering your music, we provide you with what we call an 'approval master.' This can be considered a nearly final version of the mastering of your music, however it lacks final cuts, edits and fades. At this stage, you are welcome to request as many changes and adjustments to the approval master as you require or wish.When you have approved the approval master, we efficiently finalize the project; for example, denoising is conducted, and the final master is rendered at a higher sample rate; it is thus at this step that the final few percent of quality becomes part of the final master.
Step 4: Delivery of Final Master
As with the approval master(s), we will e-mail you when your final master is ready for download (or, at your option, shipping). To make final-CD creation a little easier, we can also create a CD image.It is our sincere wish that when you receive your final master, you will begin to reap the benefits of a powerful transformation of your musical expression.
