Starting at an art college in Jakarta, precisely in Cikini Raya 73, campus Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ), NAIF formed. Some students at level one of the basic education class art often staying with their friends in turn. The initial purpose was to do the coursework together. But that happens they often even hang out while singing and playing guitar all night, until sometimes even forget to do the job because of falling asleep. Who would have thought it would be a beginning of their career in the music world. Sometime in mid-1995, David, Pepeng and Jarwo overnight at the home of a friend named Shendi Adam (bassist Hospital - from IKJ). As usual, initially just to do the coursework, but that happens - as we mentioned earlier - they even sing and play guitar all night. On the same night they suddenly make a song, inspired by an acoustic concert Nirvana on MTV they have seen before. The song eventually they gave the title "Far" (NAIF, Debut Album).
At the next moment they were growing fad often they rented rehearsal studio band and sing songs by them as inserts. At this moment formation is the turn, only three are from the beginning to survive, namely Jarwo, David and Pepeng. Until one when Chandra came to fill the void, followed by Emil. Five of them each one does have flight hours as a boy band. Even before the formation is formed separately once they collaborate well. For example David been incorporated in a single band with Emil without Jarwo and others. And then like exchange-rate only.
With the position of David on vocals, Jarwo on guitar, Chandra on the keyboard, Emil on bass and Pepeng on drums, NAIF began actively filling IKJ campus events. The songs others had followed his own creation, like "Holiday Hate," "Picnic '72", and others. While the NAIF name obtained from a friend who named Dodot, who rate their songs sound so simple, but still contained and harmonious sound. In addition, the word "NAIF" too easy to remember.
Sometime in 1996, NAIF hear from Irwan Ahmett, a friend - graphic designer, that a record company labeled Bulletin Records (PT. Indosemar Sakti) plans to release a compilation album. Being interested in the NAIF project will offer demo tapes they have made prior to the recording company. Unexpectedly it turns out the producer does not enter the NAIF in compiling the project, but it intends to make his own records for the NAIF. NAIF course very happy. After going through certain procedures, NAIF finally enter the recording studio and successfully spawned NAIF debut album with "Car Racing" as the song champion.
NAIF never claim that they are a band with this or that stream. Whatever music lovers said they were about the type of music they stretcher. NAIF anti-boxing types of music. NAIF's mission is to offer an alternative musical colors that differ from the existing adalam mainstream industry in Indonesia. What is certain is still trying to work honestly dala.
Retro. Many people classify music as retro music NAIF. That is because accident Emil, David, Jarwo, Pepeng, and Chandra (at the time) liked the old music which then affect the work they create. However, do not close the possibility of music NAIF will flow while maintaining their characteristics, because after all NAIF human remains today, who live and socialize in the present.
It is not meant be funny if in the action stage, NAIF, David the vocalist out magic moves that often make the audience laugh. It was already an everyday nature, which he later brought to the stage as a medium of interaction of the audience. But still, five of them seriously in the works. Only, in their opinion, the concept of music and entertainment that they offer at every appearance NAIF is still quite different from all that is in Indonesia, so they are often considered funny or unique. NAIF NOW (2003 - NOW)
In 2003 ... After a full eight years NAIF work in entertainment, Chandra decided to resign from the band. Chandra has his own reasons for his decision. He wants to continue his career in the world in accordance with academic education, graphic design. This certainly could make his fourth disappointed. But it did not last long. Now four of the official NAIF: Emil, David, Jarwo and Pepeng.
They are determined to continue their pergelutan Indonesian music arena with their naivete. NAIF with the new formation! A new spirit!
